FEEE
is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation
consisting of Member organisations representing 22 European
countries.
Since 1981, FEEE has actively promoted and delivered
education about the environment and sustainable development
through the following international programmes, which aim to
deliver Agenda 21 commitments and involve people of all ages
and nationalities through both formal and informal education.
The Blue Flag itself, which is given by FEEE, a respected
eco-label, is awarded to beaches and marinas with good
environmental management. To gain a Blue Flag, beaches have
to meet 26 and marinas 16 criteria, covering: water quality,
beach/marina management, safety, services and facilities,
environmental education and information.
The Blue Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarded to more than
2,500 beaches and marinas in 21 countries across Europe in
2000.
The Blue Flag Campaign is owned and run by the independent
non-profit organisation Foundation for Environmental
Education in Europe (FEEE).
The Blue Flag is a symbol of high environmental standards as
well as good sanitary and safety facilities at the beach/marina.
The Blue Flag Campaign includes environmental education and
information for the public, decision makers and tourism
operators.
